Trying out a new makeup product is always a game of hit or miss. Sometimes, you get products that swing the ball out of the park, and snag the home run. Other times, you get products like the Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara from Tarte Cosmetics. This product is the makeup equivalent of swinging your bat in the direction opposite of where the ball is. That is, it’s actually pretty bad.
Now, despite our absolute bafflement and bemusement at all the love this product has received since it was first released, we did see some qualities about it that pull up the product as a whole. With this mascara, you get a rich amount of pigmentation from every swipe, so you won’t have to run through your lashes over and over and over. The color intensity also aids in making the lashes appear much fuller and plumper. Finally, the product keeps lashes very much separated very well, so clumping won’t be an issue.
In contrast, this product has one fundamental problem from which all its other issues stem, and that is the consistency of the formula. The easiest way to describe it is that it feels perpetually “wet,” which is not good news for anyone. The mascara just doesn’t set and dry the way you’d expect a mascara to dry. Its everlasting wetness means that even if your lashes are full, they’re also very slouchy-looking because not even curling can make it look good. The wetness also makes the overall adherence of the product to eyelashes tentative at best. Not what you’d wanna hear about a mascara, I’m sure.
So no, even if the product is a cult-favorite, we can’t say we like it, much less recommend it. This mascara gets in its own way much too much to be reliable, or even the slightest bit good.
SUITABLE FOR: All skin types.
