Did you ever feel apprehensive buying a sporty watch because you were afraid you wouldn’t pull off wearing one? It is understandable, as watches often inspired or are specifically intended for a sport can be difficult to incorporate into your outfit when engaging in non-athletic activities. With TAG Heuer though, you’ll find that that fear can be sometimes unfounded. Take its TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph, for instance—it takes styling cues from racing but its good looks are still appropriate outside the race track.

Since the very first Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph in 2007, the world slowly saw TAG Heuer emerge as an appealing brand to watch wearers with a budding interest in horology. It became among the most popular watchmakers to come out of Switzerland and was among the preferred names for entry-level watches. The Carrera Chronograph was singled out especially because it is sleek even in business and formal affairs. A decade later, TAG Heuer continues to add more to the line, with the Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date Chronograph (CV2A1R.BA0799) among the most recent of releases.

Pros
The TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date Chronograph is not only racing-inspired, it is also a timepiece that can be used on the tracks. It has a tachymeter for calculating speed, although we doubt that the majority of those who would buy this would be drawn by the chronograph’s specific function. The dial is handsome and legible—the Arabic numerals shine on their own, but it is further equipped with Super-Luminova to make it readable even in surroundings with poor lighting conditions. The change from the other Carrera Chronographs appears in the form of the date and day window, which is larger than the others. The watch has a snug fit on the wrists, and would stay put even while swimming. No worries ruining the watch there—with a water resistance of 100 meters, it will survive being submerged in water.
Cons
It is difficult to pick on a detail that would make you reconsider buying a TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Day-Date Chronograph given its features that justify the price, but if we would have to pick something, the watch has a rather short power reserve with the chronograph pegged at 42 hours.
