Han Chong had too many ideas for his Fall 2019 line that it’s easy to get overwhelmed with what he eventually showed. This isn’t to say that his latest Self-Portrait collection is a bad one, but we do hope he edited and toned it down a bit this season. It’s one thing to be creative, it’s a different story altogether when a designer can’t hone that creativity to its fullest potential. Still, there were a lot of highlights in this show. For one thing, the tailoring here was commendable. Pinstriped suits and off-the-shoulder jumpsuits add some strong structure to evening looks, making them more appetizing for modern women today. But then again, the prints also stole the show, in a rather bad way this time. The polka-dots and the plaids were just so overwhelming, you didn’t want to look at them for a long time. And we hope we won’t see more of them come fall either!
