Sea is a brand that’s all about tip-toeing the line between classic and innocent femininity and a harder edge that’s borderline strong and confident. Usually, the label leans more on the former, but for Pre-Fall 2019, they ventured a little more to the latter. This is most evident with the prints they used this season, which went a bit animalistic in nature. The tie-dye effect, for example, which is a technique that designers Sean Monahan and Monica Paolini have used before, looks more like an abstract take on a cow-skin print than the normal psychedelic hippie twirls. Hints of leopard print also made appearances, via a tailored coat and a billowy dress. Still, this courageous touch was only a tinge compared to the barrage of florals and prairie dresses that made up the entire collection. But it was nice to see, even for a little bit, that Sea has the potential to be more mature and chicer than they already are!
