Eclecticism has been the name of the game these past few seasons, but while everyone fawns over Gucci’s brand of maximalism, Sacai has a different take on putting all sorts of styles and designs on the runway. The brand’s Pre-Fall 2019 Womenswear Collection, which was shown with their Fall 2019 Menswear offering, takes on the diversity in a streetwear extravaganza. Designer Chitose Abe referred to the show as a “melting pot of Sacai tastes,” which is an apt description considering that each look had a lot going on. Take the first look on Kaia Gerber, for example. Her sheer white nylon dress paneled with lace was the quintessential hybrid od modern urban-wear and old-school sophistication. Other looks played on the merging of different silhouettes, particularly the oversized jackets paired with billowing chiffon skirts. Color, one of Abe’s strongest suits, came in stark shades of crimson, admiral blue, autumn orange, and a few hints of olive green. There was even leopard print thrown into the mix to add to the glamour of such eclecticism. With such a powerful message, Abe delivered one of the finest collections of the season. Here’s to hoping her plight for diversity will resonate around the world!
