Romance by Ralph Lauren Review
Underwhelmed is what we felt upon testing Ralph Lauren’s Romance. The word may imply passion, but the scent is anything but. It is sweet but not cloying, and also more subtle than we would have wanted. We also could not shake off the synthetic, chemical smell it emits, which is not strong but is a factor that kept us from enjoying it. The drydown is warm, owing to the white musk and the patchouli, but ultimately not enough to redeem Romance.

Refreshing and will not offend any noses
Performance is average
The musky drydown somehow makes up for the lack of power with warmth
More reserved than expected
We feel that the smell is of a generic, soap-like type of clean, synthetic even

Romance is Ralph Lauren’s interpretation of romantic love in a scent, but instead of passionate, it focuses on the joyful, blooming side when loving feelings are just beginning to emerge. The fragrance employs rose accords, water lily, white violet, carnation to give a sweeter touch to the patchouli, white musk and oakmoss. Perfumer Harry Fremont is the nose behind the scent, and the fashion line officially released the fragrance in 1998.
