It’s safe to say that Rodarte is a brand for an acquired taste. And for Fall 2019, this taste is for Old Hollywood glamour from the 1930s and 40s. This season, the Mulleavy sisters take on the likes of Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland, Cyd Charisse, and more as their muses for one of their most extravagant shows to date. Shown in Los Angeles, Hollywood’s hometown, everything fit into each other perfectly. Against a floral fantasyland land of colorful plants and strobe lights, 45 looks of frilly, pretty, and exuberant ensembles made stars like Diane Keaton, Brie Larson, and Tracee Ellis Ross go “ooh” and “ahh.” It’s no surprise that these quirky style stars would get enamored by the collection, as it was a parade of frocks and gowns fit for Hollywood movie stars, both on and off screen. However, from a fashion perspective, there are both pros and cons to this line. On one hand, it was fearless of the design duo to not present tailoring—the biggest trend nowadays—on the runway. On another, one can’t help but see the similarities of this glamorous presentation to those of the Paris Haute Couture shows a few weeks earlier. How will this fare against the handmade masterpieces of the grand couturiers of France’s biggest houses? Well, if the A-listers’ giddy reactions from the front row are any indication, it’s safe to say that this collection will probably be seen on the red carpet!
