Robert Rodriguez has this uncanny ability to make any style, no matter how old and familiar, look new and fresh. It’s his decisive tailoring, fine fabrications, and sharp cuts that give him this indelible edge. In his Fall 2019 collection, he harkened back to the 60s and 70s with a slightly minimal but oh so chic and contemporary spin. Take the skirt-suit, for instance. In the aforementioned decades, this staple would look similar to a standard boxy Chanel suit. But here, a sleeker silhouette in shimmering black leather adds a powerful and slightly sexual subversiveness without being too cheeky about it. A black-and-white vertical striped pantsuit may sound like your average—albeit stereotypical and slightly cartoonish—disco threads, but with his elongated lines and sleeker cuts, Rodriguez turned it into a fabulous daywear ensemble perfect for day-to-night lifestyles. His contrasting of powdery pastels with brighter shades was also a pleasing visual aesthetic that further took these familiar looks into the present and beyond! To say that this line was chic is an understatement! And come fall, we’re sure several women will be more than happy to buy into it!
