Of all the movies Chris Leba could have been inspired by to create his Pre-Fall 2019 Collection, surprisingly, it was Sofia Coppola‘s 2006 “Marie Antoinette” starring Kirsten Dunst. It’s far from what people would expect his brand, R13, to be referenced by, yet Leba was infatuated with the film and decided to incorporate bits and pieces of it onto his line. Cue the romantic Renaissance-esque shirts and dainty Rococo floral prints he enthused into the collection. As a whole, the offering remained his signature grunge rock aesthetic, but these small yet powerful details provided a softer tone this season. However, it’s also his use of ostentatious glamour that was apparently influenced by the movie as well. His use of leopard print, shimmering leather, and sparkling studs evoked the same tinge of vivid exuberance and “Let them eat cake” attitude that the historical French-Austrian queen was infamous for. This time, however, the glamour is a lot edgier and sexier. It’ll be no surprise if a modern-day Marie Antoinette would sport many, if not all of these clothes!
