The street is enthused with sneaker culture. Before high fashion brands started releasing their own line of sneakers, running shoes, and trainers, sportswear and underground startup brands ruled the game. Many of them took inspiration from the street, from the high wire fences to the graffiti on the walls. Today, it’s no surprise that there are new sneakers that reflect streetwear. Coogi is an Australian ready-to-wear brand that reached their pinnacle in the retail business during the 1990’s. Along with sportswear brands like Puma, Coogi helped in establishing what the fashion industry now knows as streetwear. In celebration of such achievements, the two brands released a collaborative version of Puma’s Clyde sneakers last May 25, 2017. Each pair only costs $120.
Pros
Known for their colorful knitwear, Coogi’s signature is plastered all over Puma’s beloved Clyde sneakers. The shoes are some of the German sportswear brand’s most fashionable products, designed with luxurious textiles and myriad of eye-popping colors and patterns. A lot of its design is inspired by the street, particularly the graffiti art one sees on abandoned buildings and unpainted walls. The sneakers are also lightweight, which makes them the perfect pair for a casual day out as they provide ease and comfort for the wearer.
Cons
Since the collaboration consists of a knitwear company, wool is bound to be a huge feature on the product. The shoe’s more colorful and show-stopping iterations consist substantially of knitted wool, especially on the upper. As beautiful as the these make the sneakers look, this also leads to more difficulty in maintenance. In fact, a common complaint regarding these unique Clyde sneakers is that they’re extremely difficult to clean are too delicate for simple washing. They require intricate process in order to avoid damage.
