People often forget that Ralph Lauren and his Polo brand were pioneers of sportswear in the high fashion game. But his brand isn’t that of the tracksuits and sports bras kind, but rather an old-school sense of luxurious clothes one can wear on the street and when playing sports. It’s leisure without the athletics, and it’s a somewhat vintage look that many people, even the millennials that hyped up the streetwear trend today, still want to aspire to. This is what men’s creative director John Wrazej got his inspiration from when making the label’s Spring 2019 menswear collection—an interplay of references of classic masculine dressing through the lens of the 21st century. This season, the haberdashery is much more relaxed, the tailoring is less strict, and there’s more avenue for the men (and maybe even women) to wear these suits in different and more comfortable ways. A little sliver of current streetwear came in distressed denim pieces, the brand’s signature bright-colored stripes, and a few logo-ed separates. All in all, there were some that almost any man, from whatever generation, can take from this collection and make it his own. And that is the everlasting legacy of Polo Ralph Lauren.
