What is a young professional to wear these days? According to Perry Ellis, a softly tailored suit or a wildly printed sweater can do! Their Fall 2019 Menswear line was chockful of such pieces that were, weirdly enough, both classic Perry Ellis and millennial-heavy at the same time. Creative director Michael Maccari wanted to play on the current nostalgia trend this season by incorporating some classic signatures with some new looks of his own. Some men are likely to go for the kind of suiting that made Perry Ellis the menswear juggernaut it is now, especially a well-cut number in the brand’s signature shade of burgundy. While others, most likely those in the creative fields, will gravitate towards the more colorful casual sets in wild and weird prints. Although these are fine pieces, they’re also extremely boring. And for the high prices that most of these looks are likely going to cost, will they be worth every cent? Evidently, not so much. How can men be pushed out of their comfort zones if they’re given pedestrian collections such as these? Though Perry Ellis has always been about classic simplicity, too much of it isn’t good. In fact, oftentimes, it’s worse. There’s nothing more horrific than a mediocre effort, and this season, such came from Mr. Maccari of Perry Ellis.
