It’s easy to dismiss Nellie Partow as one of those designers who seem to copy the minimalistic philosophy Phoebe Philo’s Celine, but in essence, both designers couldn’t be any more different. For one thing, Partow has a subtle yet subversive take on minimalism—she makes use of textiles and details to make a garment or a look seem like one thing, but it’s completely different to what it actually is. This is manifested in her Pre-Fall 2019 Collection, which is full of ironic yet sophisticated pieces. Upon first glance, you’d think that the first look of a shimmering black skirt suit was made out of the finest leathers in the world. But in fact, it’s actually glossy linen. A few oversized shirts seem to be worn backward, but in reality, they were made to be worn that way in the first place. It’s this touch of humor in what is an extremely refined line that separates Partow from the rest of the minimally modern pack. It’s also what women love about her designs and will have them running to her stores come fall!
