Paco Rabanne has always been a cool girl’s designer. During his heyday in the late 1960s and 1970s, the likes of it-girls Marisa Berenson, Jerry Hall, and Lauren Hutton constantly wore his space-age designs on the pages of Vogue and in the famous disco New York City nightclub, Studio 54. For resort 2019, creative director Julien Dossena strives to pull in the same type of fanfare with a different interpretation of cool. His contemporary take sees the Paco Rabanne girl as a bohemian nomad who, while still into space-age futurism, is also into hard rock. In her constant adventures of freedom and rock’n’roll, she’s into semi-translucent lace slip dresses, metallic jeans, and brightly-hued outerwear to withstand any weather condition. Yet aside from this rugged exterior lies a glamorous woman as well, who’s into draped leopard prints just as much as she is into leather combats boots. Back in the olden days of the eponymous designer, the cool girls were easily identifiable. But today, the ones that wear Paco Rabanne are mysterious beings whose wardrobe come from another planet, maybe even another time in the future.
