Julien Dossena may have established himself as a bohemian designer for Paco Rabanne, but he sure can trot out an amazingly romantic collection. His Pre-Fall 2019 offering stands testament to that. Amidst his usual array of billowy floral dresses, shimmering metallic pieces, and youthful slips were touches of vintage wardrobes drawn from some of the most romantic eras of Western history. Regiment jackets, which looked like relics from Jane Austen’s era, looked particularly noteworthy with their distinct tailoring and precise embroidery and embellishments. As did the 1930s checks the decorated the slim-cut trousers in a number of looks. Yet, despite these strong menswear inclusions, the collection as a whole was decidedly-feminine in nature, possibly a sign of the times that the aesthetic ideals of femininity have now shifted, and Dossena is one of the great designers that helped make it happen.
