Just by the name alone, it’s easy to recognize the familial energy within Ovadia & Sons. And for their Fall 2019 Menswear line, they amped up that energy to a slight overdrive. Here, the twin founders Ariel and Shimon Ovadia were inspired by their father’s own foray into sports, having been a famous football player in their country of Israel when the sons were growing up. And so they came up with a masterful collection that combined their own athletic family history with that of their refined tailored aesthetic. In fact, throughout this line were multiple sportswear cues that had ease and leisure to them, but were hidden amongst such sophisticated ensembles. The first look alone—a shapely Scottish tweed coat over a well-cut black sweatsuit—was an exemplary look that balanced both the brand’s devotion to refined style and this season’s sporty narrative. As did a sleek set of dove gray separates that was softly-tailored but still had such a defined shape to it. Arguably, the most noteworthy pieces were the ones with undeniable quality design and construction, such as the exceptionally clean patchwork sweatsuit of varying grey tones and the rigorous metallic puffer hoodie. The former touched on traditional techniques while the latter highlighted sportswear possibilities that can bring this brand into the future. By them alone, it looks like Ovadia & Sons can only go up from here!
