Horology is not short of wonders—despite the dips in the industry, prestigious watchmaking companies continue to produce timepieces
that are worth our praises and accolades. It is unfortunate that not every single one would have the chance to grace our wrists, nor can we afford to have every noteworthy watch on the book in our collection. It is only reasonable to be on the lookout for something that would fit our personal preferences, be functional on our day to day activities, and end as a good investment for the money we are willing to spend.

For divers, or even just fans of diver watches, there’s Oris with its popular line Aquis. Among its latest releases was the Oris Aquis Date Blue Dial, which does not stray far behind when compared to other Rolex Submariners and Omega Seamasters. In terms of specifications, the Aquis has your usual depth rating, automatic movement, reliable bracelet, and unidirectional bezel. But you can get all these desirable features in the Oris at a lower price, while still flaunting a handsome and elegant diver watch that is appropriate on your fancy events, as well as out on the sea.

Specifications:

  • Movement: automatic
  • Caliber: Calibre 733, base Sellita SW200
  • Frequency: 4Hz
  • Case material: stainless steel
  • Case diameter: 43.5mm
  • Water resistance: 300m
  • Features: hours, minutes, seconds, date
  • Strap: metal, rubber, leather

Pros

As a tool watch, the Oris Aquis Date Blue Dial keeps the features to ones that would be beneficial to a diver. Still, its whole silhouette exudes elegance, especially because of the lovely blue dial that can appear black at some angles. The Super LumiNova gives us more sights to look out for because it brings a different touch to the blue when the lume begins to glow. Technically speaking, it is at par with more expensive options, and the finishing isn’t lagging behind—the bracelet is solid, the bezel is protected from scratches, the bracelet feels lighter but well-made than previous iterations, and the buckle is easy to use. Its movement which is based on the Sellita SW-200 is reliable enough to run the watch for many years, and the watch features an exhibition caseback, an unusual treat for diver watches, just in case you’re a tad curious to see it in action.

Cons

While the Aquis Date Blue Dial is a solid and dependable creation from Oris, the size the watch comes in is often larger than what people like. The default bracelet goes swimmingly with the watch, but that is an opinion not everyone will hold; for those who like to change their bracelets, Oris’ options are limited, and the integrated bracelet limits you to swapping before the purchase is finalized. Shifting from metall to rubber isn’t ideal because they aren’t the most comfortable. The watch does have anti-reflective coating, but this is limited on the inner section of the crystal. The choice has its benefits, but it gets in the way of legibility in sunnier environments.
