Virgil Abloh is undoubtedly one of the kings of high fashion sportswear, what with his successful collaboration with Nike. Yet even though he’s now a famous figure in both high fashion and sportswear, he continues to push boundaries by completely crashing both into a collision of a collection for Off-White spring 2019 show in Paris. It’s only appropriate that Abloh’s brand of “sportswear couture” will be shown in the birthplace of the craft, but what exactly does it look? Take Serena Williams‘ iconic tutu Tennis outfit and multiply it by 47 looks. The quirky combination of agency and elegance was on full display where leotards were paired with tulle skirts and tailoring was less rigid. A neon python print decorated both ladylike suits and casual separates, proving how an element can work for both the sportswoman and the sophisticate. The best parts, however, were the array of superstar athletes that Abloh sent forth down the runway, such as record-breaking sprinter English Gardner and Olympic Gold medalist Cecilia Yeung. And if they loved the clothes themselves, it only proves that Abloh really knows what he’s doing.
