Fashion loves a paradox, which may be why Off-White is getting a lot of attention lately. Aside from the brand’s pioneering of the luxury streetwear movement, Virgil Abloh designs also always have a touch of humor to them that’s complex and interesting. For Pre-Fall 2019, he went back to high school for a bit of scholastic style that’s preppy, sporty, yet edgy and sophisticated. Expertly pleated skirts harkened back to cheerleader outfits, tracksuits and hoodies were made out of high-quality neoprene and double-knit jersey, and a whole host of embroidered denim looks provided a sense of youthful edge. The tailoring came in the suits, some of floral pajamas, and a noteworthy satin dove gray ensemble that would have looked better in a more elegant setting than a gymnasium. Despite the reference, however, the clothes here were far from juvenile, albeit extremely youthful, but these were still pieces that teens and their parents can where. Now that would look a well-dressed pair for a parent-teacher conference!
