Norma Kamali is known for her gender-bending designs and for spring 2019, she decided to throw away the labels altogether. She harkens back to her 1970s heyday when the hard rock band The New York Dolls came into her studio and wore her womenswear designs. Today, she wants the men to be as fearless and fabulous, whether in pinstriped jumpsuits, fringed-up separates, or in denim sets. The girls, on the other hand, can still rock just as hard in metallic semi-translucent slips and ruched parachute skirts. Anyone can take a piece and make it all his or her own. These are the types of clothes wherein the girlfriends can take from their boyfriends’ closets and the boyfriends can find a piece or two from their girlfriend’s wardrobes. It’s all about the attitude, and Norma Kamali knows that if you have a lot of it, then you’re fit to wear her designers, regardless if you’re boy, a girl, or somewhere in between.
