Masculinity is being challenged nowadays, and in effect, designers are presenting new perspectives on the runway. Take Alessandro Dell’Acqua of No. 21, for example, whose Fall 2019 Menswear collection slightly deviated from the sportswear trend going about these days. For him, the focus is back to traditional tailoring, but with a more youthful take and a bit of an underground edge. Textile-wise, he deviated from tradition by giving men a multitude to choose from, whether it be shimmering leathers, cozy knits, and even a tinge of leopard prints. Such fabrications gave flamboyant touches to the looks, which in of itself is a challenge to masculinity. Despite reworking old-school techniques, there was less rigidity in the clothes here. Each piece gave the man all the agency to be himself and to redefine masculinity in his own way. And in today’s world, that’s just what they need.
