Riccardo Tisci is almost an anomaly in the fashion industry. During his tenure as creative director of the house of Givenchy, he incorporated streetwear and sportswear into haute couture, combining the most underground of aesthetics with the highest market in the entire retail industry. Now, the fashion industry is filled with high fashion streetwear, and it’s all thanks to Tisci himself. Throughout his career, the Italian designer has played with a few sportswear pieces, and one of the most memorable is his collaboration with NikeLab to produce the Dunk Lux Chukka sneakers.

Riccardo Tisci has given his design talents for the American sportswear brand many times through the years. However, the Dunk Lux Chukka stands out due to its unmistakable sophistication. The model was released for public purchase on February 9, 2017, just in time for the Fall 2017 Fashion Month. The price is $260 per pair.
Pros
Throughout his tenure at Givenchy, Tisci’s style was always quite maximalist. For the Dunk Lux Chukka sneakers, however, he incorporated a minimalist look. The essence of NikeLab’s classic Dunk Lux model is all there, with a few slight modifications such as a bigger Swoosh logo and a more streamlined collar. With a sleek yet comfortable silhouette, the shoes feel excellent as they look outstanding. They’re also as pristine and clean as sneakers can get, especially with the limited sophisticated colorways of black-and-white and red-and-white.
Cons
Upon first glance, one might not necessarily think that these shoes were designed by Riccardo Tisci. Known for his ornate designs and highly-embellished looks in haute couture, the Dunk Lux Chukka seem far from the usual Tisci identity. For many of his high fashion fans, the pair might look plain and simple—unworthy of carrying the grand couturier’s name. Others might regard the sneakers as simply glorified versions of the original, especially since there’s little change in the overall design of the piece.
