Nike Air Max 1 “Pompidou by Day” Sneakers Review
Description
The Nike Air Max 1 “By Day” are stately shoes to don the feet; despite the colors, they have a clean look that will elevate your style. They are comfortable to the tootsies for the most part, providing ample cushioning for your feet to bounce on. It may be hard to find them however as they were released in small numbers, and are likely to resell in a higher price.

Any sneakerhead would know the Air Max 1 and its significance to the sneaker world. Another creation of the prolific Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, it was first introduced in 1987 and made history by being the first sneaker to have an Air unit that is visible, a technology that has served the sneaker community well in the decades that followed after. The silhouette was inspired by the Centre Pompidou, a distinct building in Paris that was quite controversial for exposing the skeleton, going against traditional architectural practices. Hatfield pays tribute to the structure by releasing two Air Max 1s with a design inspired by its exterior, “By Day” and “By Night”, in September.

“By Day” features different colors on the pair, the very same seen on the Centre Pompidou. As the name indicates, “By Night” is a slightly darker rendition on the Air Max 1, with detailing that mimics the appearance of the building when the sun has set. Both have translucent outsoles that come with a special logo, representing Paris, Pompidou and the exposed pipes of the construction. The pairs were released in limited quantities, initially selling at US$120 each.

Pros

The Nike Air Max 1 “By Day” (and so is its counterpart, “By Night”) is an exclusive release thirty years after the Centre Pompidou has served inspiration for the instantly recognizable silhouette. The sneakers strike a nice balance of subtlety and color, despite the abundance of the latter, the same way that the building does not overwhelm in shades and hues. The official colorway of pure platinum and royal blue-white, is clean and made lovelier to look at by the colored lines that follow the shape of the shoe, just like the pipes on the building that inspired it. The outsoles are a visual treat as well, a good complement to the comfort and broken-in feel of the shoes thanks to the soft leather.

Cons

The pairs are fast sellers due to the limited stocks made available by Nike during its release. They are comfortable, but not the best out there; the soft leather that affords softness is susceptible to wrinkles. For those familiar with the sizing for Air Max 1s, this version is the same. The wide-footed are recommended to go up a size.
