Nike has released many a memorable shoe since its founding in 1964, with some of them being revived every now and then. You can count the clean and crisp Air Force 1s as among fan favorites, first released more than three decades ago now. When Nike designer Bruce Kilgore drafted the AF1s, he took inspiration after American presidential planes, hence the name. As soon as the AF1s were unraveled, they shot to prominence after being sported by six NBA players who were then at the top of their game: Calvin Natt, Moses Malone, Jamaal Wilkes, Mychal Thompson, Michael Cooper and Bobby Jones. The shoes also made Nike history for being the first of their kind to have an airbag slid through the heel, serving as cushion and support, a precursor to now brand staples Air and Air Max technologies.

The design remained popular through the years, and in 2007 Nike decided to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the shoes by reviving the silhouette, including the Nike AF1 ‘07s designed especially for women. We’ll check out the shoes to see if the updated version lives up to the good name of the AF1s, and is indeed worthy of a space on your shoe rack.
Pros
While the AF1s are probably best known for the white model, its popularity among Nike users led to the creation of more colorways for the women’s AF1 ‘07. For us, more options lead to greater fun in collecting. Plus, stocking up on them would not necessarily burn a hole in your pocket, considering the very reasonable price point for the AF1 ‘07. This version upholds the already established reputation of the Air Force 1s for durability, adding to the enduring appeal of the shoes. The perforations on the shoe are functional as they are there for style, allowing air to come in and making them suitable even during warmer seasons. They go a long way when it comes to styling, looking great with casual clothes and even working with formal when opting for monochromatic variations.
Cons
The popular model comes with a few cons that are worth considering. The size, for instance, often runs smaller than usual for the women’s AF1 ‘07, so it is recommended to get at least half a size up. The tightness on the toe can also lead to pinchy digits, especially when the shoes are brand new. The chunky outsole gives more buffer against hard surfaces, but can be quite burdensome when walking.
