“Fashion should be fun!” claimed Nanette Lepore this season. She claims that a joyous spirit was what she tried to conjure up with her latest Fall 2019 collection. But in this regard, we’re sorry to report, she failed miserably. Fun is all about freeing silhouettes, bright colors, and a breezier attitude. Her offering this season could not have been farther from all of that. With somber hues and restrictive silhouettes, her clothes were a lot more serious than she tried to make them out to be. And the clash of colors and prints didn’t help either! Just take a look at that tweed skirt-suit paired with a pussycat bow—we don’t see anything fun about it. That plaid-on-plaid ensemble in contrasting hues, made up of a structured jacket and an A-line skirt, is just so boring too. And while the brown velvet pantsuit was noteworthy, the coloring and the overall finish of the look sort of fell flat. If this was already fun for Ms. Lepore, we’re afraid to know what serious looks like in her view.
