Mulberry is a British brand through and through. Not only do they manufacture 60% of their best-selling leather goods in the UK, but their signature styles are well-within the vocabulary of British fashion. For Spring 2019, creative director Johnny Coca got inspiration from one of the most revolutionary movements in fashion: The Swinging 60s. It was as if the entire wardrobe of Twiggy was made with a fresh perspective and contemporary skills. The stapes were all there—mini skirts, granny dresses, go-go boots, and more—but all had the signature high-quality touch of the famous British brand. The tailoring was spot on as well, as the outerwear had undeniable structure and was almost couture-like in their construction. Craft was also a huge talking point for Mulberry this season, what with the leather patchwork pieces and the bejeweled embellishments. With such youthful “joie de vivre,” it’s not farfetched to expect that this collection will be one of spring’s highlights!
