“Turbo” and “More Speed” were the slogans emblazoned on the sweaters at the MSGM Fall 2019 Menswear show. This season, Massimo Giorgetti was inspired by speed, and what better reference for it than the definitive style and aesthetic of Formula 1? From the sleek silhouettes to the great use of Ferrari-red, all of what has made racecar driving such an alluring sartorial presence informed many of Giorgetti’s own designs in this offering. Still, the focus was on speed, and how fast the world is becoming nowadays. Maybe that’s why the ensembles presented here aren’t those that one can simply slip on and slip off. Nor are they that simple to decipher upon first glance. A white tee with the slogan “Turbo” on it looks relatively simple but upon further inspection, one might see the animated speed flames on the hem of the jeans. While a bright orange and hot pink outfit—on a man no less—was so vivid and camp that one would need a minute to really appreciate it. Massimo Giorgetti calls for the return of time for style, and in this electric menswear show, he presented his proposal quite interestingly.
