Pierpaolo Picciolo is truly a genius of our time, and it was more than evident in his latest Fall 2019 collaborative collection with Moncler. As part of the Milan-based outerwear label’s ‘Genius’ designer collaborations, he was able to translate his voluminous Valentino couture shapes and styles into puffer dresses and gowns. The overall result was an array of classic silhouettes made completely modern and slightly edgier than usual with Moncler’s indelible sheen and padding technology. Furthermore, the artisanal detailing in collaboration with Lemlem, an Ethiopian brand spearheaded by supermodel Liya Kebede, added a touch of culture that made it all the more fascinating. See the light-blue ballgown with a wrap-around feature for the head. Its distinct shape was classically European but the burgundy decorations had a slightly African feel to it. The same goes for the floor-length royal blue hooded poncho-like puffer vest with a matching dress underneath. All these looks encapsulate what it truly means to look globally sophisticated in this day and age.
