The genius about Moncler‘s Genius collaborations with different designers is that you get to see how these creatives explore their own aesthetics while incorporating elements that aren’t their own. But for Fall 2019, one designer who, in our opinion, didn’t do enough was Richard Quinn. With his curtain-like florals and “granny-chic” approach, he managed to make even Moncler’s classic puffy silhouettes look old and worn out. We admit it looked novel at times, but mostly, they just seemed gimmicky at best. We hoped he ventured a little more beyond his bourgeoisie narrative and translated his signature romanticism into something more contemporary. But he didn’t. And what’s worse is that, with all the added volumes from the Milanese outerwear brand’s aesthetic, it all came out looking like second-rate Balenciaga. Well, here’s to hoping his next collaborative line will look better!
