Fashion often applauds Miuccia Prada for her innovative designs, but in reality, it’s her ingenious and often unorthodox view of classic dressing that should really take the credit. This view is usually more evident in Miu Miu than in her Prada mainline, none more so than for spring 2019. Here, draped cocktail dresses were crushed, denim was ripped and sewn apart, and the bow and flowers that decorated coats and jackets were too big. Of course, there was no scarcity of synthetic python and knee-high socks neither. To an untrained eye, all these cartoonish aspects may seem tacky, but such is the indispensable sense of humor that Miuccia always injects on her collections. She takes traditional codes of ladylike elegance and mature sophistication and twists and turns them around to cater to a different, and ultimately, a more youthful consumer audience. This is what the house of Miu Miu was established for, and how refreshing it was to see it celebrate its roots.
