In the Missoni’s Fall 2019 lookbook, various works of art surround the male models who showed off the new collection. These were the works of Stockholm-based artist Anton Alvarez and were actually the starting points of the entire line. Alvarez’s sensual use of shape and brilliant eye for color is somewhat intrinsic with the Missoni look. The brand has always been fearless in mixing and combining various hues to make for interesting appeals. This season, Angela Missoni focused on said approach by interjecting a myriad of patterns as well, such as plaid, stripes, and a tiny tinge of paisley. The silhouettes here remained streamlined—refined in that old-school Italian tailoring-sort of way—but were made youthful and effervescent within the electric palette of mustard yellow, wine red, azure blue, and more. In some looks, the vibe was more fluid and sensual, particularly that of a gradient azure blue-and-black sweater worn with a similarly-hued pair of plaid pants. Other times, it was the stark differences between the colors that made the look noteworthy, especially the first look of a deep plum trench coat, burgundy plaid pants, and a bright mustard yellow pull-over. There was sensuality but also electricity, and one wouldn’t have it any other way from Missoni!
