Marni goes dark for Fall 2019! Creative director Francesco Risso explores the multitude of possibilities of which women can define pleasure for themselves, resulting in a melancholic yet romantic offering that’s slightly deconstructed but purely fascinating. Marni, known as an intellectual woman’s brand, isn’t one to venture into deconstruction often, but this season saw it come in droves. Sleeves were sliced open from the armhole, panels were barely held together through old wedding rings, and the draping over some dresses was possibly never stitched to the body. In a palette of black, white, and red (with hints of copper and pink), the line reflected the darkness of these times, and how women—whose issues are pushed to the forefront via countless controversies (the most explosive of which concern sexual harassment and abuse)—are redefining their power by redefining their sexuality. Will this change society? Maybe or maybe not. But one thing is sure: the Marni woman is certainly changing her taste to something dark and erotic season!
