The world today is full of powerful women and Marine Serre clearly wants to dress them. For her spring 2019 collection, she gave a Formula 1-inspired offering that sent chills down the spines of the many working women who watched the show. The thing about her clothes this season was that they were powerful in form and silhouette, but also in their backstory. A lot of the fabrics she used were recycled and upcycled, promoting a sense of sustainability in an industry that is often criticized for its wastefulness. A beautiful off-the-shoulder evening gown, for example, was made out of old t-shirts all draped together to embrace the female form in a painstakingly sophisticated way. Skirt-suits in vivid shades of neon strawberry-orange and seafoam mint harkened back to the 80s, a time when women really expressed their strengths through their clothing. A bit of faux fur, almost rug-like in nature, on the other hand, gave the collection an earthy and fun spin. Marine Serre is truly a powerful designer, and this collection just proves that she’s looking to highlight other powerful women and men as well.
