If you want to see bold fashions, look no further than Marine Serre’s Fall 2019 show. Now here’s someone who got her creative juices flowing and created a wild offering that’s both new and nostalgic at the same time. With her electric color palette and diverse set of materials, Marine Serre manifested a wardrobe for the quirky, yet when broken down, there were also pieces that a lot of other people will want as well. Her leather outerwear and tailored suits were prime examples. They held their own in terms of silhouette and form, but in their interesting powerplay of prints, hues, and finishes, they were exceptionally luxurious. A modern sportswear touch came in almost space-like ensembles, bearing new shapes that had an old-school opulence to them without being too in the past. But at the same time, they weren’t that costume-y neither. They were just right—cool and contemporary! And finally, if you saw little tinges of the 80s in the line, they were actually tributes to the late great Karl Lagerfeld (the 80s was said to be the most influential period in his Chanel tenure). From one fabulous creative to another, it was an amazing goodbye to an indelible legend. At the same time, it was also a look at Serre’s evolution in fashion—one that might, hopefully, eventually set her within the ranks of her late idol. Mr. Lagerfeld would certainly be proud!
