Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig never fail to bring in such sheer romanticism with their designs. Inspired by the works of Russian painter Olga Suvorova, the design duo laid out one of the most romantic-looking collections for Pre-Fall 2019. The color palette alone—shades of royal and pale purple, azure and sky blue, and a few hints of daffodil yellow—evoked the sublime vibrancy of Suvorova’s portraits of Byzantine, Renaissance, and Medieval women. For their own part, Chapman and Craig instilled a sense of Victorian innocence into the line, particularly with the ballgown silhouettes. But despite this overhaul of lace, florals, and ornamentation, this was also a decidedly youthful collection. The designers behind the Marchesa brand played on women’s desires to be flirty, feminine, and princess-like, at least every once and a while. And against a sea of tailored suits and oversized streetwear, this was a refreshing offering that reminds people why they love fashion in the first place.
