Young people deserve glamour too! This was the message that was loud and clear at Ludovic de Saint Sernin‘s erotic and fabulous Fall 2019 show in Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Here, he laid out a more streetwear approach to the minimalism of Calvin Klein‘s 90s heyday and Helmut Lang‘s aggressively sexual movement in the latter part of the same decade. Despite the focus on glamour, however, there was also a toughness in this collection, that evoked power and restraint, despite the overtly almost-naked looks that dominated the line. A scrap from what might be a white pleather breastplate, for example, was paired with an exquisitely tailored high-waisted floor-length skirt—a combination of sleek sophistication and youthful edginess. Other looks focused more on glamour, particularly a draped silver chainmail mini-dress that looked like what Kate Moss might have worn in a Parisian club back in the late 1990s. This line has a sexual message, but also a liberating one—telling the youth to go forth and embrace glamour and sexuality and to never apologize for it!
