Lancôme L’Absolu Rouge Hydrating Lipstick Review
Product Description
Lancôme’s L'Absolu Rouge Lipstick could be one of the best non-matte lipsticks in the beauty world right now, but a fatal flaw prevents it from fully ascending to that status. The packaging itself is gorgeous, the actual lipstick is even more so. The pigmentation is rich and bright, and the coverage is buildable. It even hydrates your lips, so your lips won’t look all dry and flaky. Its fatal flaw? Wear time. With a lipstick this great, you’d, of course, want it to stay present throughout the course of your day. But for that to happen with the L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick, you’d need lots of free time, and constant reapplication. Ultimately, this lipstick almost gets where it wants to be, but then trips and stumbles.

Lancôme’s L’Absolu Rouge Lipstick has quickly risen to become one of the brand’s signature, bestselling lipsticks. While we can see why this is the case, there’s also a part of us that interrogates why this happened.

This product does have a lot going for it. Besides its packaging that embodies the old-world glamour that Lancôme clearly wants to project onto its products, the formula is, for the most part, very satisfying. The actual coverage is buildable, initially somewhere between medium and heavy, and a few swipes get you absolute color. The colors themselves are also rich and vibrant. The formula is also hydrating, not even needing a lip balm base to swipe easily during application.

Perhaps the worst quality of this product is the wear time. Maybe it’s because of how hydrating the product feels but nevertheless, it slips way too easily off the lips, sometimes transferring, and other times, just straight-up wearing off. Thus, it needs constant reapplication throughout the day, which can be a hassle in more tightly-packed days where you don’t really have the benefit of getting in front of a mirror, and touching up.

So yes, while we do think that the L’Absolu Rouge is a pretty good lipstick, the wear time really pulls it down, and for us, prevents it from truly ascending to “holy grail” status.

SUITABLE FOR: Normal to dry lips.
