There’s a fine, fine line between a “luxury” beauty product and an outright, categorical con. The La Mer brand, known for their extremely high-end skincare products, has branched into cosmetics with the Skincolor de la Mer line which includes their take on concealer—simply named The Concealer. (Our review of La Mer’s The Powder, from the same collection, can be found here.)
To be fair to this product, it actually, truly does provide a good amount of coverage as an undereye concealer and a spot corrector, hiding gnarly-looking discoloration and blemishes quite effectively. And the skincare properties embedded into the product’s DNA, including the brand’s famed Miracle Broth, is a definite plus.
But $80.00, really? It’s a huge amount to be asking for such a simple product—not to mention the minuscule amount of product you get, made worse by the fact that the formula is one you have to work with your fingers. The product does have other flaws that are more or less similar to flaws in stick-type foundation or concealer products, most notably the tendency of the product to dry up the skin, especially in the undereye region. But this product’s main issue really does lie in the price point.
So can we recommend this product? Not absolutely and wholeheartedly, but it does have its strengths if you can get past what you have to pay for it.
SUITABLE FOR: All skin types, but especially normal to oily skin.
