Nostalgia is often a feeling that many designers incorporate into their collections, but for different reasons. For JJ Martin of La DoubleJ, she incorporated as much of the ostentatious glamour of the late 60s and 70s to evoke a sense of unabashed joie de vivre. And why shouldn’t she? Her business has been booming for quite some time now so she has all the reasons to celebrate. And did she ever for Pre-Fall 2019! Each look was an explosion of color and print, capturing the timeless exuberance of the referenced decades down to a tee. The prints even varied as well, from tropical-like florals to stark-colored psychedelic swirls. In terms of silhouettes, Martin kept them freeform and easy, focusing more on dresses and soft tailoring for that indelible feminine touch. Funnily enough, most of these garments are daywear, and someone who’s brave enough to sport them during the day will likely turn heads!
