Designers showing their collections in other cities and giving reverence to them has been a common practice in fashion in recent years. Karl Lagerfeld alone showed his Chanel Pre-Collections in different parts of the world, from Cuba to Moscow and every place in between. But for Pre-Fall 2019, French designer Christelle Kocher emitted a bit of a jovial spirit when she showed her collection in Planet Hollywood in New York City. The offering was a love letter of sorts to the United States of America, highlighting the very best that ever came from the “Land of the Free.” And for Koche?, that’s all about street-style luxury sportswear and Hollywood. She opened her show with nods to classic American dressing in the form of sparkling baseball outfits and patchwork rugby shirts. Then came the 90s with a slew of oversized denim separates, logo-ed sweaters and pops of shocking bright pink and vivid aquamarine—a color combo that would have charmed the Carrie Bradshaws of the world. And finally, the nod to Hollywood came in the slinkiest and silkiest of looks, without, however, an evening gown in sight. Evidently, these are clothes for a younger crowd, but the nostalgic and refined take on classic American tropes will have the more mature clientele taking notice as well.
