Among all the female designers working today, none has a label as personal to herself than Kimora Lee Simmons. It’s easy to imagine her wearing all the clothes she designs, and in her Fall 2019 lookbook, she even makes a cameo herself in the last photo. This season, however, she injected a touch of old-school glamour, thanks in part of her muse, 50s Hollywood actress Anna May Wong. But the glamour here isn’t that of the full-skirted variety that dominated the decade of Wong’s heyday, but rather it’s the exuberance that time. Look at the velvet wrap dress of look 14—the sensual ease and figure-hugging shape would look just as fitting, albeit more daring, in the 50s as it does now. The same could be said of the bustier tulle evening number that’s so light and airy one can peek through and see the legs underneath. These are more of what’s expected from Kimora Lee Simmons, and when you have signature look that’s this seductive, there’s no reason to change!
