This season, more and more menswear designers are taking a cue from their womenswear counterparts and are presenting narratives for their own collections. For spring 2019, Kiko Kostadinov laid out a story upon which the circus is in town. But instead of exploring the eccentricities inside the tent, his clothes imagines what it might look like if men applied to be in the circus, all lined-up neatly outside the tent. What would a man wear applying to be part of the circus? For this London-based designer, they’d be in slender silhouettes, color-blocked separates, wide trousers, and some in wide-brimmed bucket hats. An element of practicality came in the fisherman jackets made out of varying textiles and a few tailored pieces to evoke a more corporate look (this is, after all, a job interview). There were even a few sportswear elements in the mix, courtesy of the oversized shapes and the sneakers—a collaboration between Kostadinov and Asics. It’s unsure whether these men will actually end up in the troupe, but they already look eye-catching enough in their interview clothes!
