Jonathan Anderson has been a rule-breaker in fashion since his early beginnings. But for his Fall 2019 Menswear show, that rule-breaking aesthetic had a lot more meaning to it. The designer shared, “It became about how do we change the order, in how the way things go on the body?” In a time when politics and society as a whole are corrupted by dystopic turmoil and offensive anger, Anderson laid out a wardrobe to reflect the times. Any form of good taste was thrown out the window as look upon look of clashing prints, dominating silhouettes, and strange quirks reigned supreme. Layers of his indelible signatures, such as long cotton shirts and striped sweaters, were piled on, one on top of the other, to evoke an urgent sense of survival amidst what’s looking to a fashionable apocalypse. These were beyond the ordinary mainstream streetwear looks (although when broken down, these pieces are sure to be a hit among the same crowd) as they pertain to a current narrative that people, both in and out of the fashion bubble, should pay close attention to.
