Spring is usually about light and airy styles, and none did it as well as Johanna Ortiz for spring 2019. In this collection, she even made various textures, some of which are usually thick and rigid, into light and airy pieces. Just look at the cotton maxi-dresses and the daywear separates in linen—all look light enough to run and dance around in. Draped silk pantsuits with fringed hems also added a bit of textured shine and shimmer, but are completely new silhouettes from the Colombian designer. Micro-pleats on some dresses and skirts, on the other hand, contributed to the romantic and paradisiacal airiness of the collection. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Johanna Ortiz collection without a few ruffled pieces, which were as show-stopping as ever. With this spring offering, Ortiz is making a point that she needs to be worn on the red carpet more often, and here’s to hoping many celebrities will come awards season!
