Jewelry is a very personal item among one’s possessions. Arguably, fine jewelry is the most intimate market in all of the luxury retail business. There’s something so personal about owning or even giving someone else a piece of jewelry. They represent memories, bygone eras, and timeless elegance like no other item in the fashion world and beyond. It’s no surprise that for many families, fine jewelry is usually the relic passed down from generation to generation and are the most coveted of one’s treasures. In today’s fine jewelry business, one brand very much personifies the intimacy of the market: Jennifer Fisher.

Jennifer Fisher’s company and how it started is the story that defines how personal fine jewelry really is. Despite being in a highly-commercialized industry, Fisher and her brand have stood out for their integrity of maintaining the intimacy and personalization of their fine jewelry pieces. Her works are pure wearable art, so much so that even the most famous celebrities clamor to have one for themselves. On the brand’s website, she herself models a wide array of her creations that are on sale—proving how she believes in her work as much as other people do. Authenticity and intimacy are Fisher’s brand’s values, and they show profusely.

How a Baby Led to a Brand

Jennifer Fisher Designer

Before Jennifer Fisher became the renowned jewelry designer she is now, she was already a big name in the fashion industry. For ten years, Fisher worked as a wardrobe stylist for a series of films, TV shows, and commercials, often flying off to Manhattan and Los Angeles for these projects. Through this profession, she was able to build connections with some of the most important and widely-famous people in the field, many of which became her biggest clients. She eventually settled in New York City and started her family there.

After giving birth to her first son, Shane, during the early noughties, Fisher noticed that there were little uniqueness and originality in the fine jewelry market at the time. Determined to gift her firstborn with a one-of-a-kind piece, she designed her first jewelry for Shane with his name stamped on the item.  As more and more of her friends and family asked for her designs, this led to her opening up her own eponymous luxury label in 2005. In 2011, she garnered even more attention with her brass line—a shimmering array of rings, cuffs, chokers, bracelets and more—which soon became her highly accessible and most successful collection. Six years later, in May of 2017, the label opened their first flagship store along the iconic Fifth Avenue of New York City.

Gifts for Kids

The Jennifer Fisher brand started with a piece of children’s jewelry the namesake founder designed for her firstborn son. It’s only natural that now, the label offers premium and precious items for other children as well. For their “Gifts for Kids” line, they put forth a collection of dazzling dog tag chains, individual charms, and baby anklets parents can decorate their precious ones in. While they might be adorable, they exhibit the same refinement and sophistication that the brand’s main adult line has. Parents, however, should be extra wary and careful as these pieces are also miniature, easy enough for babies and toddlers to accidentally swallow.

Unafraid to add more sparkle to their line, Jennifer Fisher has partnered with San Francisco-based diamond producer, Diamond Fury for a special capsule collection. For now, this collaboration consists of ear studs—the type all the coolest it-girls wear on a daily basis. Incorporating lab-grown diamonds paired with their highly precious 18-karat yellow gold brass, this mini collection is also a sustainable venture. These special man-made stones are actually carbon neutral and despite their unique origins, still sparkle as if they were discovered from the world’s most exotic places. With such a noble cause and exquisite artistry, it’s no wonder each piece already costs thousands of dollars, but worth every cent.

This New York-based fine jewelry brand also takes the intimacy level up a notch with their own customizing service. On the company’s website, there’s a “Build Your Own” mechanism wherein clients can design their Jennifer Fisher-brand jewelry. There are options to choose the specific chain-types and charms to create their self-designed necklaces. The vast array of charms include letters and numbers (which can be used to spell out a name), pearls, and zodiac signs (for a more unique and quirky look). Another user-friendly feature is that one can see if their design will match their specific skintone—a modern and socially-aware detail of this customizing service.

Superstar Clients

Even before starting her own jewelry brand, Jennifer Fisher was already friends with a lot of Tinsel Town’s A-listers. Eventually, these celebrity friends became her most valued clients and catapulted the label into wider recognition. Pop stars like Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, and Selena Gomez have all worn a piece or two from the luxury label. Actresses and style icons Sarah Jessica Parker and Naomi Watts have also been spotted sporting Jennifer Fisher jewelry. Perhaps the brand’s most famous and prestigious client is former American First Lady Michelle Obama, who wore a pair of brass earrings during the 2017 ESPY awards.

Kitchen Culture

Beyond the world of fine jewelry, Jennifer Fisher has recently ventured into high class culinary. The label sells their own brand of homemade salts, which can either be normal, spicy or a special variation for curry dishes. Additionally, their website also features numerous free recipes anyone can easily follow in their own kitchen. Almost all of the selections here are organic, healthy, and can be made with their own special brand of salt. They vary from kinds of pasta, savory meat dishes, and healthy sweets. Some of them are even inspired or taken from Fisher’s own family, like Shane’s Quinoa Salad and Cassie’s’ Cauliflower No Rice Balls.

Fashion has always been about exclusivity, leading for other people to think that it’s a disconnected industry. But in fact, there are numerous areas within the business that encourage intimacy and personal connection through their array of precious pieces. Fine jewelry is arguably the best example of such, especially Jennifer Fisher’s brand. With a charming origin story and a customizing service, this New York luxury label had shed light on what it really means to have a luxurious piece.
