September 2022 Sales (LATEST)

Shopping for clothes when you’re on the outliers of straight sizing is agonizing. Often, there are compromises to be made on appearance and fit. Even when something is supposedly in your size, that does not assure that it will cling naturally to the body. The ones that do don’t always appeal to personal tastes, but sometimes, they’re better than nothing. There are even less choices in high fashion. That is slowly beginning to change though, with designers warming up to the idea of creating clothing for more sizes. Jason Wu is among the latest to sign his name on a more size inclusive clothing line through his collaboration with brand Eloquii.

Eloquii made headlines recently after it was officially purchased by Walmart. Before that, it has already made a reputation for catering to larger women to satisfy their fashion fix. Creative Director Arnold emphasized the need to make the shopping experience not only pleasant for curvier women but also at par with that straight sizing. Many were worried about the direction the line will be taking after its acquisition, but a tease of what is coming our way through a sketch that signaled a designer collaboration seemed to reassure fans that the brand has not lost sight of its goal. The feeling was even more solidified when it turned out that the designer was Jason Wu, and the excitement for the collection was palpable.

The desire to perfect the fit of plus size clothing is among the many praises for Eloquii that drew Wu in. That, and the fact that both the label and the designer target confident and strong women. Both similarly want those characteristics to shine through their clothing as well as make their clients feel those when wearing their garments. Wu praised the detailed and technical approach of the brand in addition to its practice of listening to its followers’ feedback.

The thoroughness that both parties have approached the project with is evident even in the collab’s lookbook. Eloquii has tapped model and activist Paloma Elsesser to appear in the official photos for the collection. The elegant aesthetics of the photoshoot complemented Elsesser’s strong, confident vibe and glamour, and that was as intended.

This was not Wu’s first venture outside straight sizing. He created pieces that were sold over luxury retailer 11 Honoré previously, but the partnership with Eloquii will be the first full-blown collection. Wu was ecstatic about the reception the announcement has received, saying that although positive reactions were anticipated, the excitement that at times felt excessive was encouraging. Wu said of the project, “This is something that really opens up new avenues for me.” He claims that he has learned more through the project but it felt effortless because it was in line with his goal, which is to make the intended audience of his clothes look amazing.

Eloquii x Jason Wu is up for grabs since the 1st of November, and we’re treated to modish suits and dresses available in sizes 14 to 28. They won’t burn a hole in the pocket too despite the designer tag, so head over to the Eloquii site to shop just in time for the holidays.
