September 2022 Sales (LATEST)

No other fashion designer has captured the American dream as much as Ralph Lauren. The American icon celebrated his eponymous label’s hitting the 50th mark in New York with a fashion show, a star-studded audience, and deeply moving testaments to his legacy by celebrity friends and industry veterans.

The golden anniversary for the label is executed in a grand scale right in the city where it all began. It’s not just that—it was also held in an iconic destination. VIPs from all sectors have gathered in New York City’s Central Park, specifically at the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, to be treated to a fashion show featuring 150 models, including American It girls Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber. It was a presentation of the label’s milestones in fashion, making time for all the styles associated with the brand and featuring his high end as well as more commercial lines. It was updated though in a certain manner to keep up with the times; the ensembles felt like the meeting of casual and formal wear, which also happens to be prevalent in today’s fashion.

Likewise, Ralph Lauren’s latest collection elicits the same vibe, some of which made its way on the catwalk. Through the years, the label has gone through the themes that are strongly associated with the United States, such as Western, Hollywood and Navajo. Lauren one-ups his preferred motifs though by introducing styles he had envisioned would soon embody the modern American.

An honoring of the label and the man

Ralph Lauren was immediately met with a standing ovation upon gracing the venue. The society’s cream of the crop all gathered to applaud the man who was beyond significant in setting the standard for American fashion. It was especially meaningful considering that many of the guests had their personal stories that are only testimonies to the Ralph Lauren legacy.

The designer, who is turning 79 this year, has lived one out of the many stories of the American dream. Born in The Bronx to immigrant Ashkenazi Jew parents hailing from Belarus, he has overcome many challenges before his name has been made synonymous to the fashionable American. The army veteran first worked for Brooks Brothers and Beau Brummell before introducing to the world his Polo line in 1968. It took decades of hustling, but soon enough the name Ralph Lauren would become among the most celebrated American luxury fashion designers.

For many, the brand was something to aspire to and a signifier when one has truly made it. The audience to the company’s runway show is filled with the VIPs that shared this sentiment, including no other than American icon and philanthropist Oprah. Speaking before the crowd, Oprah told of her first time buying Ralph Lauren towels, which the entrepreneur dreamed of having since she was a child—she once had a friend whose closet was filled with the soft towels from the brand, and had elevated the bath sheets to a high standard since. The touching toast also spoke of Ralph Lauren’s contributions in elevating beauty and for putting his shared visions and dreams onto his collections.

Celebrities present in the occasion also include Robert De Niro, Kanye West, Steven Spielberg, Blake Lively and Pierce Brosnan, among others. Brosnan reportedly surprised his son, Paris, who modeled for the much anticipated event.
