Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe in 2018? Here are the 8 Designers to Know

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe - Here are the Designers to Know

September 2022 Sales (LATEST)

If you consistently follow the scene, you’ll inevitably be fatigued hearing the same names over and over. That’s not being said to downplay the genius of our preferred designers, but rather to encourage creativity and competition. In a field that is bursting with vision and guts, there are still plenty of talents just waiting to be discovered. If you want to add something new to your wardrobe sans a largely familiar label, you’ve sought the right page—the following designers will fill the desire to seek something fresh.

Charlotte Knowles

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 1Charlotte Knowles boasts of a great resume, just like many of the designers we’ve come to love. She graduated from the prestigious Central Saint Martins, interned for Acne Studios as well as Gareth Pugh, and worked for a recent Helmut Lang collection. But her talent and hard work have paved the way for a line of her own, and this year has her unlocking an achievement: having her label’s first show on the runway. Her eponymous brand has gained quite a following among women who find her feminine yet edgy designs empowering. The clothes Knowles create are made for women by a woman, rather than simply considering what would look alluring to the opposite sex.

Rebecca de Ravenel

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 2Rebecca de Ravenel first came under our radar for her Les Bonbons earrings. The chic pair was unlike most jewels in that it used silk in lieu of gold, and it was light despite the presence the earrings create. But de Ravenel is on our list for reasons beyond her hit earrings—the designer is back with a more expansive collection. Like her jewelry, the influences from her childhood spent from one place to another can be seen through her feminine dresses. They also show a hint of vintage, which we think will make more people know of her name.

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 3Not everyone would be keen on saying the brand name out loud, but we bet that the brand would find an audience beyond South Korean fashionistas. The duo behind the label, Bona Kim and Jaehyuk Lim, who are both graduates of highly esteemed institutions in London, came back to Korea to establish their brand and to help the local fashion scene flourish even more. BESFXXK likes to take familiar silhouettes and deconstruct them, encouraging wearers to experiment with their looks through the label’s garments. The focus is mostly on athleisure, but the scope extends to the streets as well.

Standard Clothing

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 4We have another intern for Acne Studios in Nam Nguyen, designer of the label Standard Clothing. Nguyen’s garments are all about utility, and maximizing that utility. This is partly due to the designer’s upbringing; born to immigrants, his family prioritized function over fashion. Nguyen retained this all the way to hist time at Berlin’s Weissensee Academy of Art, which is why his collection is filled with clothes that serve more than a single purpose and is open for experimentation.

Caroline Ann

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 5Caroline Ann is the name to know if you’re on the hunt for new stylish clothes to take on a vacation. The American designer’s collection is filled with flowy apparel and lively colors that would blend in well on a cruise. The loose garments are outlined by soft ruffles and take plenty of inspiration from the beach. Working on all body types, Caroline Ann wants wearers to have fun and be more comfortable, even when the lovely weather should have taken care of it.

Moon Choi

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 6Moon Choi’s debut was met with excitement and acclaim. A graduate of Parsons, the South Korean designer blurs the distinction among genders with her use of light, lines and color. Her apparel could be described as minimalistic with its clean lines as well as sophisticated in the sleek way it fuses the masculine and the feminine. She also does not adhere to traits typically attributed to males or females, resulting in deconstructed garments.

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 7The Japanese celebrity Monaca Nishi has transitioned from in front of the lens to behind the scenes with her newly-founded brand, Fiction Tokyo. Her models have strutted in her childhood-inspired garments while wearing rabbit ear masks in leather. The collection was assorted in its pieces, but they are all flattering and feminine. Monaca Nishi also chose to show her designs’ glory in both soft and deep colors.

Itching to Refresh Your Wardrobe Here are the Designers to Know 8Bevza, named after its founder and Ukrainian designer Svetlana Bevza, is technically not a new brand. The label has existed since the 2000s in Bevza’s home country, but it took at least a decade for the designer to successfully take it out for wider recognition. The endeavor has turned in favor of the designer though, now that she has made it to lists of emerging fashion labels. Her creations are heavily influenced by Ukraine and occasionally by its political landscape, but the common denominator among her creations is elegance. Bevza also commits not to hurt any animals in the manufacture of her apparel.
