Chic minimalism is hardly what you would describe Isabel Marant‘s designs. Although she’s always about separates and tailored pieces, she never failed to inject a youthful and slightly bohemian spirit to her clothes that’s far from what minimalism is today as defined by Phoebe Philo and Stella McCartney, But for Pre-Fall 2019, Marant decided to go on a more mature look that’s more entwined with the aesthetics of her aforementioned British contemporaries. Her attitude, however, remained the same and completely her own. It’s only though Marant’s nonchalant French cool girl chic aesthetic that a menswear-inspired check suit would look edgy rather than business-ready. The same applied to a matching burgundy set with a wide torso silhouette and oversized sleeves. Femininity came in the draped dresses which evoked an 80s haute couture-like vibe without all the bells and whistles of the said era. Whatever look she’s working on, Marant is able to effortlessly make it her own, which is why women love her and her clothes!
