At first glance, we couldn’t believe that this was actually the Hellesy show! Where was the elegance? The craftsmanship? The stunning ideas that have made the brand the cult classic it is today? In her Fall 2019 collection, Sylvie Millstein seemingly chose to forego all sense of propriety in place of an attempt to seem edgy. She, however, failed miserably at it. There was nothing edgy about those poorly-draped velvets and those deconstructed suits (which were quite a waste!). There was nothing fascinating about those garish neon hues, awful color combinations, and poor use of sparkling lame! And those cowboy hats? Perhaps one of the worst gimmicks we’ve seen this season! Not only did they look ridiculous, but they also did nothing to push whatever narrative Millstein is trying to portray here. And as a conclusive note, if you were able to make even the legendary Pat Cleveland looks horrific on the runway, then you have a big mess on your hands!
